FAQ & policies

Good questions.

Pricing, deposits, ID, guests, touch-ups and everything else. Can’t find your answer? Call 715-986-4192 or email your artist directly.

01Booking & appointments

Do I need an appointment?

Appointments are encouraged for tattoos and consultations. We take walk-ins when we post them on Facebook or host a special walk-in day.

How do I schedule a tattoo?

Each artist books their own appointments. Email your artist of choice directly (addresses are on our Artists page), use our request form, call the studio at 715-986-4192, or stop in during lobby hours.

How can I get in last minute?

We always post cancellations and open spots for every artist on our Facebook page. You can also call 715-986-4192 and ask if anyone has time.

Can I bring a friend or family member?

One guest may be allowed in the tattoo area during your procedure, depending on space and your artist’s discretion. It isn’t guaranteed. Our reception area has limited seating, so please don’t bring an entourage.

Children aren’t allowed in the tattoo area and can’t be left unattended in reception. Please leave minors at home.

Could my appointment be rescheduled?

Your artist may need to cancel or reschedule an appointment, sometimes without notice. If that happens, we’ll do our best to honor any deposit you’ve put toward it. If you’re visibly ill, your artist may also reschedule you.

02Pricing & payment

How much does a tattoo cost?

Pricing is based on size, detail, placement and time. We give you an up-front estimate on your design. For large or multi-session pieces, you’ll get an hourly estimate before we start. Hourly rates vary by artist, depending on their experience and speed.

Our shop minimum is $75.

What should I send for an estimate?

Email your artist with:

  • Size, in inches
  • Placement
  • Color or black & grey
  • Details about the design

Our request form puts all of this together for you.

Do you require a deposit?

Yes. A drawing/appointment deposit secures your appointment and gets your design prepared. It comes off your tattoo price. It’s not an extra fee.

  • Can’t make it? Contact your artist before your appointment and your deposit moves to the rescheduled date.
  • No call, no show: we keep the deposit and the drawing.
  • If your artist has finished the drawing and you decide not to get tattooed, the artist keeps the deposit for their time and you get the drawing.
Do I need a deposit for a custom design even if I don’t book yet?

Yes. The same deposit covers your custom drawing and your appointment; it’s not a separate fee. Once you’ve left a drawing deposit, you can set up your appointment any time.

What forms of payment do you accept?

We prefer cash, and also accept debit, Visa, MasterCard and Discover. Card and electronic payments carry a 3–3.75% service fee. We don’t accept personal checks.

Do you sell gift certificates?

Yes. Gift certificates are sold by individual artists; there’s no general studio gift certificate. Contact the artist you want to gift by email. Cash, debit and credit are accepted.

03Designs

Do you have books of designs to look through?

No design books here. Most of our tattoos are custom-drawn for each client. Every artist has a digital portfolio you can see in the lobby, on our Portfolio page, and on Facebook.

How do I get Crimson Heart to draw my tattoo?

Browse the portfolios and decide whose style suits your idea. Each artist has their own style, and we like to pair you with the right one. Then email that artist directly or use our request form.

Do you do cover-ups and redos?

Absolutely. We’re happy to rework or cover up existing tattoos, whatever the reason. Send your artist a clear photo of the current tattoo along with your idea. See some before & afters.

04Age, ID & health

How old do I have to be?

Wisconsin state law requires you to be at least 18. No exceptions. A valid ID is required for every client, no matter your age.

What counts as a valid ID?

State or federal photo identification: driver’s license, state ID, passport, military ID or tribal ID. School IDs are not accepted.

Is there anything that would keep me from getting tattooed?

We can’t tattoo you if:

  • You’re pregnant, or think you might be
  • You’re breastfeeding
  • You’ve taken prescribed blood thinners or any steroid (such as prednisone, hydrocortisone or triamcinolone) in the past seven days
  • You’re under the influence of drugs or alcohol, or have had alcohol in the past eight hours
  • You’re sunburned or peeling where you’re getting tattooed
  • You’re visibly sick
  • You don’t follow our studio policies and guidelines

We reserve the right to refuse service to anyone for any reason.

05Visiting the studio

Where are you located?

We have one studio: 162 13½ – 14th Ave, Turtle Lake, WI 54889. Yes, we know it’s a crazy address. The easiest way to find us is to head east on Highway 8 out of Turtle Lake. We’re two miles down the road, right on Hwy 8.

What are your hours?

Lobby hours are Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday 12–8 PM, and Thursday and Saturday 10 AM–6 PM. We’re closed Sunday and Monday. Call us at 715-986-4192.

What should I know before I come in?
  • Masks are optional in the building. You’re welcome to ask your artist to wear one, and they’ll be happy to.
  • Bring your own resealable drink, like bottled water.
  • No food or snacks in the tattoo area.
  • Please don’t visit if you’re feeling sick in any way.
Do you still do piercings or sell body jewelry?

No. We no longer offer piercings or sell body jewelry. We’re all tattoos now.

Is everyone welcome?

Always. We celebrate diversity and welcome all clients.

06Aftercare & touch-ups

Will you tell me how to take care of my new tattoo?

Of course. Your artist will go over aftercare with you in person and send you home with an aftercare packet: written instructions plus a sample of the balm our founder makes from herbs grown on her chemical-free farm. See our aftercare page.

Is there anything I should avoid while it heals?

Yes, for the healing period (about three weeks):

  • Keep it out of direct sunlight and tanning beds
  • No soaking or chlorine: no swimming, hot tubs, etc. Showers are fine.
  • Take a couple of days off from extreme workouts
Do you offer free touch-ups?

Yes. You get one free touch-up within six months of getting your tattoo.

If you miss your touch-up appointment without contacting your artist to cancel, it will cost the $75 minimum. Touch-ups after six months are priced at your artist’s discretion.

What counts as a touch-up?

A touch-up covers areas that didn’t heal properly or a discrepancy in the design that needs attention. It doesn’t cover adding new subject matter, design or color that wasn’t part of the original appointment.

Ready when you are.

Pick your artist, send your idea, and we’ll take it from there.
